September in Ischia, what to do in the perfect month to discover the island

From the Festa del Porto to Andar per Cantine: this is how the island reveals, among events, walks, baths and spas, its most beautiful face. Discover all the September events in Ischia.

September is the perfect month to discover Ischia. The last waltz of summer, which yields the baton to a delicate beginning of autumn: so the sea and spas, privileged solutions for a relaxing vacation, certainly less conditioned by the August crowds, are once again joined by trekking through the island’s paths and the discovery of its most enchanting villages. Villages such as Campagnano, where you can already breathe – thanks to the industrious heroic viticulture – the heady scent of the grape harvest.
It is therefore no coincidence that September has become, over time, a month full of appointments: many more reasons to choose Ischia.

Grand celebrations for the port

For example, there is an anniversary to celebrate, that of the historic opening of the port: September 17 the landing celebrates its birthday, commemorating the insight of King Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who inaugurated its opening to the outside world in 1854. Before that it was a fishy lake, the Feast of the Port thus celebrates the fortunate metamorphosis-which now makes it one of the most beautiful ports in Italy, perfectly circular, almost an embrace to the outsider-with a sensational parade of figures in period costumes and ancient sailing ships, a plunge into the past in a stretch of water that for a few hours gets rid of ferries and hydrofoils, with a final pyromusical show.

Full of philosophy, the festival of thought in Ischia

September is also the month of thought: from the first to the 22nd of the month, the International Festival of Philosophy, organized by the Insophia association with the aim of bringing a discipline long considered hostile, confined to dialogues among insiders, among the people. Not anymore, not in Ischia: that’s why conferences, workshops, exhibitions and happenings attract, along with philosophers and scholars from all over the world, even simple onlookers and enthusiasts. The headquarters is the Guevara Tower, or Michelangelo; events are also planned at the Aragonese Castle and at the La Mortell Gardensa.

The flavors of autumn beginning

And what about food and wine? The air freshens, the common thread is that of tradition. It inspires two major events that intertwine, Ischia Safari – an unmissable three-day event with great chefs, Sept. 16-18 – and Andar per Cantine, the successful event organized by the Pro Loco Panza d’Ischia, with guided itineraries to discover the earthy soul of Ischia. This year’s event is from September 20 to October 6, the successful format unchanged: ecological walks with stops at some of the most extraordinary wineries in the area, with wine tasting and local specialties, there will be mouth-watering.
